Verity Turpin

Verity Turpin is the Vice-Provost, Student Affairs (Acting) for a one-year term starting September 2020. She has been part of our Dalhousie community since 1999, most recently as Assistant Vice-Provost, Student Affairs—a role she assumed in 2016. In that role she was responsible for Student Academic Success Services, Student Affairs Communications, Student Health and Wellness and Residence and Student Life at Dalhousie University. She is chair of the Alcohol Advisory Committee and oversees the Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy for the institution, as well as the Code of Student Conduct.

Her passion for students, coupled with a commitment to leading progressive change and transition, has been the foundation of her 20-year career in Student Affairs where, in addition to serving as Assistant Vice-Provost, she was Director, Finance and Administration, Office of the Vice-President, Student Services and Executive Director, Student Wellness.

A testament to Verity’s commitment and passion for student health and well-being is the leadership role she played in developing Dalhousie’s first Student Wellness Strategy, transforming how the university delivers primary and mental health support to students through an interprofessional collaborative healthcare model. Verity is also a member of the national technical committee for the Mental Health Commission of Canada and CSA, contributing to the new National Standard on Mental Health and Well-Being for Post-Secondary Students.

Verity holds a Bachelor of Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University, a Master of Electronic Commerce from Dalhousie, and has a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
