With a population of over 480,000 people, Halifax is the capital city of Nova Scotia and the educational, cultural, and economic hub of Atlantic Canada. Often referred to as Canada’s “best-kept secret,” Halifax boasts a youthful spirit, rich history, and scenic waterfront.   
 
Halifax’s urban charm is complemented by its natural beauty. Discover rugged shorelines, colourful gardens, hiking trails, and scenic parks. The ocean is part of our life here — Dalhousie is just 300 metres from the Atlantic — so sailing and water sports are enjoyed through spring, summer, and fall, with surfing being popular year-round.

Our Halifax campuses

Dalhousie has three campuses in Halifax — all within walking distance to the downtown core where you’ll find art galleries, museums, theatres, festivals, sporting events, lively pubs, quaint cafés, and, of course, friendly Haligonians. Check out shops, restaurants, and historic buildings as you stroll along the world’s longest harbourfront boardwalk.

A world of knowledge

Our libraries offer state-of-the-art learning and research opportunities. You will have access to one of the largest university library systems in Atlantic Canada. Librarians will provide guidance and help as you work on class projects and research.

Fitness and recreation opportunities

As a student, you will have full access to Dalplex, our primary fitness and recreation facility. You can also choose from the many intramurals and clubs offered throughout the year, from traditional sports like basketball, soccer, hockey, and volleyball to activities such as rock climbing, inner-tube water polo, broomball, and dodgeball. Or you can try out for one of our varsity sports teams that compete regionally against other university teams in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference and nationally in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).

Our commitment to safety

We are committed to providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff ,and visitors. Security Services operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year providing vehicle, bicycle, and foot patrols across campus.

Sustainability

We strive for sustainability in both practice and theory. The Office of Sustainability works to incorporate sustainability concepts and criteria into all major university functions. And our College of Sustainability, a first in Canada, offers a common place for the study of sustainability-based problems.
