Getting your DalCard
Not all faculty and staff automatically get a DalCard. If you are not automatically entitled to a DalCard but need one for building access, your department can request a Courtesy Access DalCard for you.
Monthly paid faculty and staff
Your DalCard should be requested automatically when your payroll forms are submitted to Payroll.
Wait a minimum of three business days after your start date to call the DalCard Office to make sure we have received your information. Processing times may vary based on various factors.
Upload your photo and government-issued photo ID online to have your card produced. We will send more information by email on getting your card once your photo has been submitted. NOTE: The card preview provided during the photo submission process is generic (and will appear as "Student") but your card will print with the correct faculty or staff status and colour.
Bi-weekly paid faculty and staff
On the Payroll Profile form submitted to Payroll, your department must specifically request courtesy access for you.

Setting up your DalCard
Requesting building access for faculty and staff
Many Dalhousie buildings, rooms, and offices are locked and you will require your DalCard for access.
Building access requests cannot be completed by the DalCard Office. If you require building access:
Ask your supervisor or departmental/faculty administrator to request building access on your behalf. You cannot request your own building access.
Supervisors/administrators will request access by emailing IT Support Services at support@dal.ca.
- Set your PIN online through your DalCard account (NetID login required). Your DalCard PIN is a numeric 4-digit code that is used for access to many buildings on campus. Setting your PIN is easy:
- log in to your DalCard account
- select “Manage Campus ID” > “Change your card PIN”
- enter your 4-digit numeric PIN and enter it again. That’s it!
Once building access has been added and your PIN has been set, your DalCard will start working. You do not need to come into the DalCard Office.
Payroll deductions: the convenient option for faculty and staff
Have money deducted from your pay and put directly into your DalCard account on the next business day.
Use your DalCard at any of our vendors and earn 5% back on purchases from most locations on campus.
Complete the application form [PDF-231kB] and return it to the DalCard Office in person or by email at dalcard@dal.ca
Monthly payroll deduction requests must be received no later than the 6th of the current month to be reflected in that month.
Bi-weekly payroll deduction requests must be received by Thursday, one week prior to the next pay date.
