Nutrition programming

Discovering and choosing healthy food and lifestyle choices can help keep your body and mind healthy, fuel your success, and improve your overall well-being.

Our health and wellness program includes a healthy menu strategy, as well as nutrition and other wellness initiatives that promote and support healthy lifestyles.

Our programming focuses on these so-called “4 Es”:

  1. Enable a food environment that encourages health and well-being by offering a variety of healthy choices every day
  2. Educate, inform and empower the communities we serve by providing evidence-based nutrition and wellness information
  3. Encourage a heightened level of interest and excitement about healthy and local choices
  4. Engage a community that actively participates in and is connected to a culture of health and wellness

Registered dietitian

Halifax’s campuses are supported by registered dietitian, Liz Muggah, who designs and delivers nutrition-related programming, as well as supporting students one-on-one in navigating:

  • eating a balanced diet while living in residence

  • managing allergies and intolerances

  • managing nutrition-related chronic illnesses

  • nutrition for athletic performance

  • dining with religious or cultural considerations

  • nutrition solutions for university and residence life

  • residence dining menu questions

Truro campus

Our Food Services team in Truro is committed to:

  • offering Balanced Choices menu items to promote healthier eating

  • using BALANCE icons to identify healthy and sustainable menu choices

  • providing nutrition and wellness information through Nutrigrams and Superfoods

  • providing nutritional information at point of sale

  • providing menu options for special diets (e.g. vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal, etc.)

  • actively running seasonal wellness promotions

If you have any specific dietary restrictions, we will do our best to accommodate them.

If you want to talk to someone about your food options, please email Janice Faulkner at  janice.faulkner@compass-canada.com to discuss accommodation before you arrive. If not, connect with Shawn within your first week on campus to ensure you get off to a good start for a proper, healthy diet.
