About the Cape Breton Medical Campus
The Cape Breton Medical Campus (CBMC) is an expansion of the Faculty of Medicine, made possible by a partnership with the Government of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton University (CBU) and Dalhousie’s Faculty of Medicine. The program admits 30 students from Nova Scotia each year, providing an opportunity for students to study in their home province.
With a five-year return of service to family medicine, CBMC students will support family medicine across rural Nova Scotia upon completion of their studies.

Cape Breton Island is one of Nova Scotia’s top destinations for outdoor adventure, scenic drives and coastal experiences. Studying in Sydney, Cape Breton’s urban centre, students experience a mix of metropolitan and coastal charm.
The CBMC is located in CBU's new medical sciences building, a new and modern facility constructed in 2026. Adjacent to the CBU campus, the CBMC offers students a unique opportunity to be part of the CBU community while remaining connected with their Dalhousie Medicine classmates across three campuses using state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology.
