Fees for the 2026-27 academic year
In addition to tuition, all Dalhousie students pay incidental (non-academic) fees. These fees support services that help you learn, stay healthy, and get the most out of campus life. Fees may vary based on your campus, program, enrolment status, and student type.

All students are members of the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU). Your fee supports student representation, advocacy, and campus programming.
Halifax Campuses
- Full-time students: $83.86 per term
- Part-time students: $44.70 per term
Truro Campus:
- Full-time students: $85.70 per term
- Part-time students: $44.70 per term
- Applies to: All Dal students are required to have health coverage through the DSU plan, or an equivalent external health plan. Full-time students who start in September are automatically enrolled in the program.
- Can you opt out: Yes. If you have equivalent health coverage under another plan, you may apply to opt out through Dal Online. See if you're eligible to opt out of the health plan.
Annual cost (September–August): $491.89 (Charged in the Fall term)
Important: If you are on a co-op work term, exchange, are a distance student, or are starting in January you must opt in to the plan. The DSU Health Plan provides benefits at a lower cost compared to traditional group plans.

- Can you opt out: Yes, if you can provide proof of equivalent insurance under another plan.
- Annual cost: $1328.84
All international students must have health insurance and are automatically enrolled in both the DSU Health Plan and the International Student Health Plan. Coverage is available for couples and families for an additional cost.

Pays for membership in the Dalhousie International Students Association (DISA).
Facilities renewal fee
- Applies to: All students

This fee supports building maintenance and campus infrastructure improvements.
- Full-time students: $110.00 per term
- Part-time students: $36.40 per term
Fitness facilities renewal fee
- Applies to: All full-time students on Halifax Campuses (Studley, Carleton, and Sexton)
- Can you opt out: No
Supports upgrades and maintenance of athletic facilities, including the Dalplex.
- $90 per term (maximum $180 per academic year)
Facilities renewal – Sexton
- Applies to: Full-time students in the Faculties of Engineering, and Architecture and Planning.

Supports the IDEA Building on the Sexton Campus.
- $100 per term
- Applies to: All students on Halifax Campuses (Studley, Carleton, and Sexton)
- Can you opt out: No.
- Full-time students: $2.50 per term
- Part-time students: $2.50 per term
A student-run first aid service supporting the Dalhousie community.
- Applies to: New full and part-time undergraduate students on Halifax Campuses starting in the Fall term (September).
- Can you opt out: You can opt out of the orientation fee if you are not able to participate. You must opt out before the September 2, 2026 deadline.
- One-time fee: $130
If you're a new undergraduate student in Halifax, your orientation fee gives you access to events, activities, and programming throughout the welcome period

In the ‘Select a Term’ drop down choose 2026/2027 Fall
For the plan ‘Dalhousie Orientation Fee Opt-Out Application’ choose: Apply.
Read and click through the information and disclaimer screens and then enter a reason for opting out. Once complete, submit the opt-out request.

Halifax Campuses

Truro Campus:
- Full-time students: $189.48 per term

- Applies to: All All full-time students on Halifax Campuses (Studley, Carleton, and Sexton)
- Can you opt out: You may be eligible to opt out if you meet certain conditions, and can provide documentation. Learn more about opting out of UPass.
The U‑Pass gives full-time students unlimited access to Metro Transit buses and ferries from September to April.
