Get connected as a student living off-campus

The Off-Campus Council (OCC) is a student-led, university-affiliated service that connects first-year, Halifax-based, off-campus students to each other and to the broader Dalhousie University community. The OCC provides students with:

  • Mentorship with upper-year students

  • Fun events and activities throughout the academic year

  • Emergency bursaries

  • Travel and accessibility supports

  • Community meals

Off-campus mentorship

The OCC mentorship program is designed to ease the transition to university for new students who are living off-campus in Halifax. The program is a great way for you to meet other students, develop a sense of belonging, and become connected to the university community before and during your first year at Dal.

As part of the OCC mentorship program, you will:

  • Be paired with an upper-year mentor who will guide you through student life at Dal and answer any questions you have.
  • Make friends with your fellow first-year off-campus students.
  • Attend fun events that will make you feel connected to the Dalhousie community.
  • Learn how to navigate the university experience alongside other new students.
  • Learn about university supports and resources that are available to you.

First-year, off-campus students in Halifax are automatically enrolled in the OCC mentorship program and will be paired with a mentor before you begin classes.
