As provost and vice-president academic, Dr. Frank Harvey is Dalhousie University’s senior academic leader.

Dr. Harvey is a distinguished academic leader who brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to higher education. Having served as Dalhousie's acting president and vice-chancellor from January to August 2023, Frank returned to his role as provost and vice-president academic (VPA) with renewed energy and a steadfast commitment to advancing academic excellence

Dr. Harvey was appointed as Dalhousie’s provost and VPA in 2020. Prior to becoming provost, Dr. Harvey served as dean of Dalhousie's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences from 2016-2020 and as chair of the department of Political Science from 2014-2016.

A professor in the Department of Political Science, Dr. Harvey has won numerous teaching awards and has served as Distinguished Research Professor of International Relations, held the Eric Dennis Memorial Chair of Government and Politics at Dalhousie from 2013-2021, the Fulbright Distinguished Visiting Research Chair at Yale University, a NATO Research Fellowship, served as director of the Centre for the Study of Security and Development, and was a research Fellow with the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.

The Provost Committee reviews issues of significant academic, financial, and operational importance and ensures academic priorities are integrated with administrative and financial requirements to achieve the university strategic priorities.
