Earn your Master of Arts in French with courses in the areas of French and francophone literatures and cultures, French and general linguistics, and second-language studies. The Master of Arts in French program is both a self-contained program and a first step towards a doctorate degree (PhD).

All graduate programs at Dalhousie are collaboratively delivered by a home Faculty and the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Admission requirements

You'll need to meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies minimum requirements as well as any program-specific admission requirements before you can apply.

The next deadline to apply for this program is June 1 (Canadian applicants) or April 1 (International applicants) for September entry.


Program-specific requirements

This program requires you to meet the following criteria:

Minimum B+ average (3.30 GPA) from a recognized university is required; a qualifying term/year (typically three to six undergraduate classes) may be required to improve proficiency.

French language requirements: Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written French is required; a qualifying term/year may be assigned if needed.

English language requirements: International applicants must meet Dalhousie English language proficiency requirements (Dalhousie administration is in English) even though courses are conducted in French.
