High School Applicants
General admission requirements
You can apply to many Dalhousie programs directly from high school. The general admission requirements for degree programs are:
- Completion of secondary school (i.e. Grade 12) with a minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
- A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 English and any other required subject (see General Admission Requirements by Program table below)
Subjects required for admission to various programs are listed below, as well as the minimum required Grade 12 averages. Admission to many programs at Dalhousie is competitive; meeting the minimum entrance average does not guarantee admission. Normally, 70% or higher is necessary in all required subjects for early admission.

1 Students who wish to complete their first year in the Integrated Science Program must apply to the Bachelor of Science or Medical Sciences program and select the Integrated Science option on the applicaiton form. In addition to meeting the English and Math requirements for BSc, students must also complete two of Chemistry, Biology or Physics and one additional university preparatory course.
2 Students applying to Music are also required to demonstrate proficiency as instrumental or vocal performers in an audition/interview, and knowledge of the basic rudiments of music theory (equivalent to grade II theory, Royal Conservatory of Music) and aural dictation through written diagnostic tests.
3 New admission requirement for September 2018. All Nursing applicants will be required to complete the CASPer test to be considered for admission. Visit dal.ca/studynursing/casper for details.
4 Students applying to the Bachelor of Science (Agriculture), Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Bioveterinary Science and Diploma in Engineering programs in the Faculty of Agriculture who are otherwise qualified but who do not have the appropriate pre-calculus math class may be admitted with the requirement that they take the relevant non-credit introductory studies class in their first year prior to registering in the degree level class.
5Students applying to the Equine Specialty are required to have experience for admission. A competency form must be submitted with their application.
