Important Dates & Deadlines

Remember that all residence buildings close immediately after exams in December and April. Please pay particular attention to dates for residence closure at the end of term and make your travel plans AFTER you know your own exam schedule.

January 2020  
January 5 Residence re-opens for all students. First meal available through the meal plan is supper.
January 6
First day of classes
January 17 Winter term fees due
January 17 Last day for decreasing your meal plan for the winter term. You can increase at any time. To make a change, contact the Residence Office.
February 2020  
February 7 University Closed - Munro Day
February 17 University Closed – Nova Scotia Heritage Day
February 17-21 Winter study break - no classes (University open)
March 2020  
March 9 Deadline to re-apply for residence for
students who want to keep their room,
or move to another residence of their
April 2020  
April 18 Residence closes at noon - Agricultural Campus*. Last meal available through the meal plan is breakfast
April 25 Residence closes at noon - Halifax Campus*. Last meal available through the meal plan is breakfast.

Please note - You are required to leave residence 24 hours after your final exam. Please keep this in mind when making travel arrangements. (See Academics for the full exam schedule.)

May 2020  
May 15 $500 room deposit due from returning residence students who applied prior to Mar. 9 deadline.
May 15 DalCard Online Photo Submission opens
June 2020  
June 15 New student room guarantee application deadline (direct from High School)
July 2020  
July 20 Before You Arrive online module available through Dal Online in your Residence Application
August 2020  
August 31              Last day for DalCard Online Photo Submission
September 2020  
September 4-12 Howe Hall, Shirreff Hall, Risley Hall, Gerard Hall, and Mini-Residence houses will be substance-free for the duration of the 2020 Orientation Week. Students and their guests are not permitted to consume or be in possession of all substances described in the residence code of conduct within those residence buildings during that time.
September 3-4 Early Baggage Drop off (10 a.m.-3 p.m.)
September 5 Move-in Day for New Residence Students
September 6 Residence Office open
September 7  Move-in Day for Returning Residence Students, University closed for Labour Day, but Residence Office open.
September 8 First day of classes
November 2020  
November 11 University closed - Remembrance Day
