GCE A Level (British System) Applicants


Admission requirements

As a GCE A Level (British System) applicant you need a minimum of five subjects, including two A (Advanced) levels or four AS (Advanced Subsidiary) levels with grades of C or better, for admission. You must also meet our general admission requirements. Math requirements are met through the GCE curriculum in the following ways:

GCE/GCSE Math Requirements
Academic Math 12   IGCSE or O level math
Pre-Calculus 12 AS or A level math


University credit for GCE A Levels

Select GCE A Levels completed with a minimum grade of C are eligible for transfer credit consideration. Please see the table below for a list of the GCE A Level transfer credits that Dalhousie currently offers. Dalhousie does not offer transfer credit for AS and GCSE or O (Ordinary) level classes.

Please note: the transfer credits a student receives may be impacted by the degree requirements of their program.

Please note:
Transfer credits are subject to change. Due to degree requirements, students in the Bachelor of Engineering program are eligible to receive a maximum of 12 credit hours of transfer credits. Please contact transfercredits@dal.ca or speak to an academic advisor for more information.

  • Art & Design
  • Design and Technology
  • English Language
  • Hindi
  • Law
  • Marathi
  • Tamil
  • Telugu
  • Urdu and Urdu Language

Step 2: Submit GCE A Levels transfer credit request

  1. Confirm your offer of admission by paying your admission deposit.

  2. Complete the GCE A Level Transfer Request Form. You can submit your completed form before your final exam results are available. Transfer credits will be listed as pending on your academic record until an official GCE certificate is received. 

  3. You must arrange for an GCE certificate to be sent to the Registrar’s Office directly from the examining board (i.e. CIE Pearson, EdExcel, etc.) as soon as it is available. Final exam results submitted directly from a secondary institution are also acceptable.

Deadlines: Transfer credit request forms and must be submitted before you complete your first semester at Dalhousie.

Processing time: 4-6 weeks.
