Renewable scholarships

If you received a renewable entrance scholarship, you will be automatically assessed each year to determine if you qualify for renewal. Assessments are typically completed in late July, or September for co-op students.

How co-op impacts renewable awards

In-course scholarships

If you don’t have a renewable scholarship, you’ll automatically be considered for in-course scholarships each year.

  • Awards typically range from $500 to $2,000

  • Initial assessment occurs in September, following completion of final summer term grades
  • Decisions are based on grades from the previous academic year

To be considered, you must:
 
  • Complete at least 30 credit hours of Dalhousie coursework 
  • Take courses across two academic terms in the previous academic year
  • Achieve a minimum SGPA of 3.70

The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31.
 

Important to know

  • Transfer credits are not included
  • Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee an award
  • Eligibility and award values may vary depending on:
    • Available funding
    • Number of qualifying students

Transfer students: Once you complete 30 credit hours over two academic terms at Dalhousie University, you’ll automatically be assessed for merit-based in-course scholarships.

Your in-course scholarship is applied to your next year of study. 

  • For example, if you qualify based on your second-year credit hours and SGPA, you will receive the funding in your third year.
  • To receive the funding, you must be registered full-time.

One co-op work term

You must:

  • Complete 30 credit hours over two academic terms (fall, winter, or summer)
  • Achieve a minimum SGPA of 3.70

One academic term plus one work term is not sufficient.
 

Two co-op work terms

You must:

  • Complete 15 credit hours in one academic term
  • Achieve a minimum GPA of 3.70 in that term

There are additional awards you can apply for or be nominated for throughout the year.

The Aramark Leadership Award Fund supports students who demonstrate leadership and community involvement.

Eligibility requirements

  • Full-time undergraduate student at Dalhousie (minimum 9 credit hours per term or a co-op work-term) in the previous academic year (at least two terms)
  • Registered full-time (or on co-op) for the current academic year in good academic standing
  • Demonstrated a significant level of involvement and dedication to the Dalhousie community through the areas of leadership, citizenship, and/or sportsmanship.


Deadline

Applications typically close in late November. The exact deadline will be posted closer to the application period.

The W. Andrew MacKay Alumni Scholarship recognizes undergraduate Dalhousie students who demonstrate leadership, citizenship, and/or sportsmanship, along with meaningful involvement in the Dalhousie community.

Award value

  • Several awards valued between $1,500–$3,000 (amounts vary each year)


Eligibility requirements

  • Registered full-time undergraduate student at Dalhousie (minimum 9 credit hours per term) in the previous academic year (at least two terms)
  • Currently registered full-time at Dalhousie during the term of application
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.30
  • Students at the University of King’s College and the Faculty of Agriculture are not eligible


Nomination process

  • Students must be nominated by their department head, dean, or school director
  • Each department, college, or school may nominate one student per year
  • Units are responsible for managing their own selection process


Deadline

  • Call for nominations typically planned for January
