About this resource

Elder Daniel Paul (1938-2023) was a Mi'kmaq editor, activist and author best known for his renowned and landmark 1993 book, We Were Not the Savages (a Dal Reads selection in 2017). He was a member of both the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia. His portrait was painted by renowned Mi'kmaq artist Alan Syliboy and hangs in the McCain building to honour Elder Paul and to celebrate his life and contributions.
