Dalhousie’s PhD Management takes a rare cross-disciplinary approach, bringing together expertise from across the Faculty of Management to tackle complex societal and organizational challenges. 

You’ll learn from leading faculty in a variety of management disciplines, conduct research that examines critical issues for organizations and society, and develop impactful knowledge mobilization practices that communicate effectively with industry, government, and community partners.

Graduates of the PhD Management work in academia, government, non-profit, and private sectors. This program prepares you to contribute, in leadership or advisory roles, to areas such as:

Program options

The PhD Management combines core theory, research methods, and inclusion-focused courses with electives tailored to your research interests.

Over the first two years, students complete 21–27 credit hours of coursework alongside graduate seminars, before moving into comprehensive exams, thesis proposal, and original research.  

The program is designed to be completed within four to five years on a full-time basis or up to eight years on a part-time basis.

Program delivery

This is an on-campus program with both full-time and part-time pathways. Coursework is completed in person, with flexibility for off-campus research and other components after coursework is complete. There is one program intake each September.

You'll need to meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies minimum requirements as well as any program-specific admission requirements before you can apply.


Program-specific requirements

This program requires you to meet the following criteria:

  • Thesis-based master's degree or its equivalent from a university of recognized standing.

 

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.3 (B average) on 30 credit hours from a master's degree, and 30 credit hours from the most recent bachelor's degree.  

Applicants who do not meet these requirements may submit additional evidence of professional education, research activity, or professional and creative work to support their application through our prior learning assessment (PLA) process. For more information, email phdmgmt@dal.ca.

IELTS: 7 or higher

TOEFL: 92 or higher
