Year 1: Discover
In your 1st year, you’ll build a strong foundation in business and economics.
- Choose your first-year courses. Explore courses to discover your interests and learn which courses are required for your program.
- Meet the cohort of students you’ll study with throughout your degree.

Year 2: Grow
This is the year you'll:
- Start with a term of coursework in the Fall.
- Complete your 1st work term in the Winter.
- Continue your coursework in the Summer.
- Decide whether to specialize by choosing a major, minor or certificate; or customize your degree with electives of your choice. You can declare a major, minor or certificate at any time. We recommend declaring a major by the Winter term of year 2 and talking to an academic advisor to understand your options.
Skills and learning outcomes
- Build on your foundation with intermediate business courses.
- Get an introduction to professional work experience in your first work term.
- Bring your on-the job experience back to the classroom when you return from your first work term.
Top experiences
Networking events, employer information sessions and application preparation assistance will help you be successful in your job search.
- Participate in student societies to have opportunities to travel, compete in case competitions, meet students in other programs, and get involved in community service.
- Compete in Rumble in the Rowe, a second-year in-house case competition.
The experience of forming a tight-knit cohort during the Summer term has led to the affectionate nickname “Comm Summer.”

Work terms are a chance for you to gain real-world experience while discovering and refining your interests. You might pursue a position in your dream field or try something that surprises you.
The most successful students start their job search as early as first year and access our career coaching resources during their entire degree.
To gain academic credit, you’ll have to pass an evaluation completed by your supervisor. You’ll also complete a graded report that will help you:
reflect on your experience and possible career paths,
develop your professional writing and research skills,
prepare you for advanced business courses.

Year 3: Specialize
This year, you'll:
Complete your 2nd and 3rd work terms in the Fall and Summer terms.
In the Winter, take courses required for your major, or choose from a list of business electives if you are customizing your own path.

Year 4: Apply
This year, you'll:
- Finish with two terms of coursework that bring your learning together and complete the requirements for your major or minor.

- Bring your learning together with a capstone course designed to prepare you for strategic thinking in any workplace.

- Your last chance to make memories that last a lifetime. If you haven’t already, your 4th year is a chance to run for a student society position, help organize a fundraiser, conference or case competition, and attend year-end celebrations.
- Graduation! We can’t wait to celebrate with you and your supporters.

- Doing Business in Emerging Markets: A field course where you’ll travel internationally to learn about expanding Canadian business.
