Access Tutoring Supports

Free Tutoring

Dalhousie Agricultural Campus offers free tutoring for Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, and Statistics at the Help Centre (Room 156, Cox Institute). The Help Centre offers free, drop-in, group tutoring.

Finding Private Tutoring

Student seeking private tutoring are encouraged to use the following resources:

1. Post a “Tutor Wanted!” ad on the Dal Mobile app

  • The Dal Mobile app is restricted to the university community, making it a more reliable place to source a tutor who is local and has experience in your course.
  • Include all relevant course information: course code, course title and how you would prefer to be contacted.
  • Post to a relevant channel. For Agriculture-specific courses, post to the Truro Student Feed or the Faculty of Agriculture group. Remember that equivalent or similar courses exist on the Halifax campuses so a tutor based in Halifax may be available to meet virtually through MS Teams.

2. Network

  • Speak to a tutor at the Help Centre. An existing tutor may offer private tutoring outside of their Help Centre hours or may know someone who does. Remember to leverage your student network for leads on talented tutors!
  • Connect with your professor or instructor to ask if they can recommend students who have previously taken the courses who may be able to tutor.
  • Email or call the specific department offering the course to ask the administrative assistant if it’s possible to send an email to upper-year students asking if anyone is available for private tutoring.

3. Halifax Campus - Studying for Success

  • Truro based students can access paid, private tutoring through Studying for Success based on the Halifax campus. Students should review the tutor request process outlined on the website. Students can connect with sfs@dal.ca regarding any questions about Studying for Success tutoring.

Note: Instructors may employ different approaches to learning outcomes even when courses are equivalent or when teaching different sections, which could impact a tutor’s ability to provide tutoring services. Review your course outline with your tutor to help ensure your tutoring plan in matching course content.
