The Australian National University (ANU) is a public university located in the Australian capital, Canberra. Established by a Federal Act of Parliament in 1946, it is one of the nation’s oldest universities and the only Australian public university to be established by Commonwealth, as opposed to State or Territory, legislature. Centered at the Acton, Canberra campus, the university comprises of seven teaching and research colleges, three focused postgraduate research centres and three non-tertiary educational entities, and hosts the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science, the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia and the National Computational Infrastructure facility.

The 120 hectare (296.4 acres) campus is a haven of clean air, tall trees and native wildlife, including parrots, honeyeaters, cockatoos and resident kangaroos.

Despite its serene location, the campus is within walking distance of the shopping and entertainment complex of Belconnen, and just 12 minutes by regular bus service or car from Canberra’s Civic Centre.

On-campus social life revolves around our coffee shops, restaurants, food outlets, bar, lounges and lawns, student group-study annexes and the University residences (the Ressies). Regular social events are organized by UCU, and shops, banks and a hairdressing salon are conveniently located on campus.

ULB was founded in 1834, just four years after Belgium itself was created. As the capital of the European Union and the capital city of Belgium, Brussels is well served by public transport. Brussels is less than two hours by train from Paris, Amsterdam, London and Cologne.

As a French-speaking university, most of the courses at the Université libre de Bruxelles are delivered in French. However, a growing number of Master degrees are partly or entirely delivered in English.

The University offers a wide range of French courses, prior to and during the academic year, to help its international students improve their language skills. and quality.

Note the language of instruction is mainly French. Recommended level is B1 in French, no certificate is requested except for the Faculty of Sciences. 

At least 60% of your programme must consist of courses offered in the Faculty you’re enrolled in. This Faculty should correspond with your principal area of study at Dalhousie.

The University of Bath ranks highly in the league tables of UK universities published by a number of national newspapers, including the Times, Independent and Guardian. Its research is internationally respected, and its students are in demand by employers because of the high quality of the teaching offered here. The University's buildings are set in an attractive campus about a mile from the centre of Bath, a World Heritage City. It is a safe and friendly campus with strong student services and good social opportunities. Its sports facilities are first-class.

Bordeaux is located at the very heart of Southern Europe, only a few hours from major EU capitals and cities. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, described as "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble”. Capital of south west France, Bordeaux is home to dedicated football and rugby teams. Less than an hour away, there are the sunny beaches of the Atlantic coast, while further south are the historic and cultural treasures of the Pays Basque and the Pyrenees. The new high-speed rail connects Bordeaux to the European high-speed rail network and places the Gironde capital only 2 hours from Paris.

Kiel is the capital and most populous city in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, with a population of 240,832. Kiel lies approximately 90 kilometres north of Hamburg.

If you are proficient in German, you can consider taking courses that are taught and assessed in German. If you are almost proficient Kiel offers intensive German language training as a precursor to your exchange to improve your chances of success.

Situated only 35 kilometres from Milan and linked by suburban rail, Pavia (originally Ticinum) enjoys the advantages and services of its near neighbour. However, it offers a calm, captivating and cooperative environment with a higher quality of life. It also has a series of sports centres available for students to use, including those run by CUS (Centre for University Sports). Pavia is a place for students to call home. Founded in Roman times, Pavia population today is made up of approximately 70,000 inhabitants and 24,000 students. Pavia is a city of narrow streets, ancient churches and elegant buildings all bordered by the River Ticino. Culturally speaking, Pavia has much to offer, with 19 museums and collections, 2 multi-use cultural centres, 4 public libraries (and 18 university circuit libraries), 4 cinemas and theatres, 10 socialcultural meeting places, a music conservatory and 2 civic schools of music and arts. As a rule, Exchange students must select their courses from those offered by the school they will be affiliated with at Waseda. In some cases, you may be permitted to take courses offered to all students or courses offered by other schools as well. Please note that the course list for the following year will be made available in March. These courses are open to all students including general students, so the possibility that you will be selected is quite small. Your study plan should be focused on the courses offered by the school for which you are applying.

Malta is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Italy. The main campus is situated at Msida.

The University of Malta is the highest teaching institution in Malta. It is publicly funded and is open to all those who have the requisite qualifications. The University's structures are in line with the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area. Conscious of its public role, the University strives to create courses which are relevant and timely in response to the needs of the country. The supreme governing bodies of the University are the Council and the Senate.

There are some 11,500 students including over 1000 international students (450 are visiting students) from 92 different countries, following full-time or part-time degree and diploma courses, many of them run on the modular or credit system. The University regularly hosts a large number of Erasmus and other exchange students. A basic Foundation Studies Course enables international high school students who have completed their secondary or high school education overseas but who do not have the necessary entry requirements, to qualify for admission to an undergraduate degree course at the University of Malta.

The Campus Estadod e Mexico is located in an area of 27 hectares and with more 80 thousand square meters and is divided into area high school, sports and professional. Leiden, with its 116,000 inhabitants, is a medium-sized city that provides an attractive living environment. Leiden University permeates the whole city. The city and the University have for centuries been closely interwoven. Leiden University (founded in 1575) is one of Europe's leading international research-intensive universities.

This exchange is with the Faculty of Humanities at Leiden. Dalhousie students from all disciplines can participate in the exchange, however, they should note that most or all courses should be taken in the Faculty of Humanities. Access to Language classes is limited.

Note that some of the courses that are available in Leiden’s Faculty of Humanities may be considered appropriate for use as Social Science credits at Dalhousie (SOSA, INTD or Political Science for example). At Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the academic year is divided into 2 semesters. Each semester is divided into 3 periods.

Amsterdam is the capital and number one student city of the Netherlands.  

Founded in 1880, Vrije is consistently ranked amongst the world’s best 150 research universities. It is located in Zuidas – one of the most dynamic and fast-growing business districts in the Netherlands. Here you will find a large selection of restaurants, cafés, shops, and cultural establishments.

Courses in the fields of Psychology and at our School of Business and Economics have limited capacity. Therefore, incoming exchange students majoring in Psychology, Business and Economics are given priority in registering for courses in these subject areas. Students with different majors can apply for courses in these fields but should be prepared to adapt their course choice in case these courses are full. 

Bachelor’s students are not allowed to follow courses at Master’s level, unless these courses are also mentioned in the exchange courses overview under Bachelor’s courses. 

Dutch-taught courses are not always available to exchange students, even when having good proficiency in Dutch. Students should check with incoming@vu.nl if there is a list available of courses taught in Dutch in their subject area.

When you register for courses in VUweb, you must also register for work groups (if applicable) and the first exam. In the event of failing a course, you must register for the resit examination at least two weeks prior to the examination date.

The University of Otago in Dunedin is New Zealand's oldest university. In addition to the main Dunedin campus, the University has small facilities in Auckland and Wellington the medical schools have larger campuses near Christchurch and Wellington Hospitals. Additionally, the university has the Portobello Marine Laboratory inside Otago Harbour. Dunedin is the second-largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and the principal city of the Otago Region.

Årstadvollen is the University's "health campus", where dentistry, medicine and health-care lie close to the Haukeland and Haraldsplass university clinics. Natural and social sciences, psychology, the arts and law are taught at Nygårdshøyden, a mixture of houses, shops and seats of learning. Bergen is located in the county of Hordaland on the southwestern coast of Norway. It is an important cultural hub in its region, recognized as the unofficial capital of Western Norway sometimes also referred to as the Atlantic coast capital of Norway.

The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is a public university located in Ås, Norway.

It is located at Ås in Akershus, near Oslo, and at Adamstuen in Oslo and has around 5000 students. The university is known for its beautiful campuses, with spectacular, big and old trees, as well as ponds, flowers and bushes.

Kyungpook National University (KNU) is a leading national university in Daegu, South Korea. The university is one of 10 Flagship Korean National Universities. It is one of the oldest national universities in Korea. The university was established in September 1946. In 2008, it merged with Sangju National University. Daegu is a city in South Korea. The city is the capital and principal city of the surrounding Gyeongsangbuk-do province.

Pompeu Fabra University is considered one of the most prestigious universities in Spain. Umeå University is located in Umeå in the mid-northern region of Sweden. The university was founded in 1965 and is the fifth oldest within Sweden's present borders. The university is known for research relating to the genome of the Populus tree contributions to the Gleason problem and function spaces on fractals and its school of industrial design. It is also the one of largest providers of distance education courses in the Nordic countries.

The University of Gothenburg is the third-oldest Swedish university. It is among the largest universities in the Nordic countries. With its eight faculties and 57 departments, the University of Gothenburg is also one of the most wide-ranging and versatile universities in Sweden. It has eight faculties offer training in the Creative Arts, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Education, Information Technology, Business, Economics and Law, and Health Sciences.

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden by population and the fifth largest in the Nordic countries. It is situated on the west coast of Sweden.

The University of Lausanne is a higher teaching and research institution composed of seven faculties. Its research activities focus on three main themes: human and social sciences, life sciences and medicine, and environmental sciences. The setting of Lausanne is extremely picturesque. The town is built on three hills, surrounded by vineyard covered slopes, with Lake Geneva at its feet. Rising impressively from the opposing French lakeshore are the Savoy Alps. The attractive old town is largely car-free, and small alleyways with cafes and boutiques shape the streetscape in the medieval city centre.

Bangor is situated on the North Wales coast and is easy to reach from any part of the UK. Manchester International Airport is only a two-hour train journey away and London is only a four-hour train journey away.

A cathedral city, Bangor is set between the Snowdonia Mountains and the sea and is a beautiful and spectacular place to study.  With miles of beautiful coastline and the nearby Snowdonia National Park, the area boasts some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery in the country.  Mount Snowdon- England and Wales’ highest peak is only a half hour journey from Bangor.

Students who wish to travel within or outside Bangor can purchase an Arriva Student Saver ticket which offers unbeatlable savings (up to 30% savings on bus fares). 

The cost of living is lower than in larger city universities. Accommodation costs are much lower and with no need to pay for public transport - students can save up to 50% on living costs. Bangor is ranked amongst the top 4 University cities in the UK in terms of cost of living (accommodation, food etc).  Leading newspaper The Independent placed Bangor amongst the most cost effective locations for students in their Student Living Index Guide for 2008.

Bangor is not an industrialised city, pollution levels are low, so it's a clean and healthy place to live. 

Course restrictions are not listed on the website but students will be informed of them when they apply. 

Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Science and Radiography classes are normally not available due to a lack of spaces/ work placement availability.

Cardiff University is one of the UK’s most popular and is an internationally recognised centre for teaching and research. It was founded in 1883 and is based in the very centre of Cardiff, the capital of Wales. Cardiff is the capital of Wales and its largest city. It has a distinctive character with an excellent quality of life and an international reputation.

Many national cultural and sporting institutions are based in Cardiff, including the National Museum of Wales and the Principality Stadium. Cardiff Castle sits in the centre of the city, bordered on one side by beautiful parkland and on the other by excellent shops, restaurants and nightlife.

The waterfront area at Cardiff Bay is home to the Welsh Assembly and the Wales Millennium Centre arts complex. There are regular food, arts and craft festivals and visitors can walk across the barrage or take a boat trip around the bay.
