Wondering how much it costs to attend Dalhousie? 

Your tuition depends on your program, course selection, and student status. The estimates below can help you plan your budget.

*These estimates are based on approved 2026–2027 rates and may change. Your actual fees are confirmed after you register for courses.

Domestic (Canadian) undergraduate students

Fall and winter term tuition and fees

CAD $10,790 – $13,462 (estimated range)

International undergraduate students

Fall and winter term tuition and fees

 CAD $33,091 – $51,503 (estimated range)

Residence

If you choose to live in residence, you could expect to pay approximately: CAD $12,877 – $16,792 (lodging and meal plan)

How your tuition is calculated

At Dalhousie, most undergraduate programs charge tuition per course, not per program.

Course fees

You pay for each course you take.

  • Most undergraduate courses = 3 credit hours (billing hours)
  • A typical full course load = 5 courses per term (15 credit hours)
  • Tuition varies by faculty, so courses in different faculties may have different rates

Example: If you’re an Arts major and take a Science elective, you’ll pay the Science rate for that course.

Mandatory incidental fees

Mandatory incidental fees cover services, including health insurance, facilities, and transit passes. In some cases, you may be able to opt out of some student fees.

Additional fees

In addition to tuition, you may pay:

  • Auxiliary fees: Some programs may have auxiliary fees to cover other expenses that are not part of the course fee, including labs, specialized equipment, internship and practicum expenses, materials, and facilities.
  • Society fees: Support student societies.

International tuition

If you’re an international student, your tuition depends on when you started your program.

  • If you started prior to Fall 2023: You will pay the international tuition fee. See the tuition and fee schedules for details. 
  • If you started in Fall 2024 or later: You may be eligible for the International Tuition Guarantee.

Exchange students

If you’re coming to Dalhousie on a university-wide exchange program, you don’t pay Dalhousie tuition or admission deposits. You’re still responsible for other costs, which may include:

  • U-Pass (transit pass)
  • DSU health and dental plan and/or international health insurance
  • Residence and meal plans
  • Student orientation fee
  • Additional costs, such as lab fees or locker rentals

You may be able to opt out of the health plans if you have comparable coverage under another plan. View fees to learn more.

How to read the tuition schedule

  • Faculty: Find your Faculty or program in the list.
  • Rate per: 
    • Billing hour: The cost of each credit hour.
    • Course: Each course = 3 billing hours
    • Term: Based on a typical full course load (5 courses = 15 billing hours)
  • Auxiliary fees: Program-specific costs not covered by course fees.
  • Society fees: Student society contributions.
  • Mandatory incidental fees: Fees are broken down between fall and winter terms. Get detailed fee information.
  • Terms: Shows estimated fees for a full-time domestic student, and payment due dates. 

Below the fee schedule table, you will see a breakdown of international tuition fees (for students who started prior to Fall 2023), and further explanations of mandatory and auxiliary fees.

Your overall yearly tuition amount

Your total tuition depends on several factors, including:

  • The courses you choose
  • Your program and faculty
  • Any additional or optional fees

Because of this, your total amount owing isn’t confirmed until you complete your course registration.

Once your fees are assessed, you can view your full balance in your student account.
