What will I learn?

The Theatre Department has a wide range of courses to get you started in your chosen career. In addition to the BA Theatre program, we offer BA Honours degrees in Acting, Costume Studies, Stage Design & Technical Theatre, and Theatre Studies.  

You might want to get out of your seat with a course in dance and movement. Create clothing from any period in history. Learn about film editing or art direction. Get spontaneous with an improv course. Get hands on in a lab for set construction, props, lighting and sound. Bring out your inner Shakespeare with a course in playwriting. These are just a few of the many course options available to Theatre students.

Careers and future study

Choosing Theatre at Dal opens you up to a world of opportunity through a wide variety of career options:

  • director, playwright, actor, artisan, technician or designer in the professional theatre in Canada and abroad
  • high school drama teacher
  • arts administration in the theatre and film industries
     

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in theatre, and scenography, or a professional degree such as law.
