Specialization options

Gain a competitive advantage

Enhance your degree by aquiring a focused expertise in one of our five specilizations: 

  • Data Science
    Extract meaning from the vast amount of Big Data that exists by learning about Cloud Computing, High Performance Computing and Data Mining.
    This specialization requires  compulsory and  electives from a list of elective courses.
     
  • Graphics, Gaming and Media
    Learn how to tackle problems in rendering graphics in two and three dimensions in real time.
    This specialization requires three compulsory and two electives from a list of elective courses.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems
    Study Web Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence with gaming applications. 
    This specialization requires two compulsory and two electives at the fourth-year level from a list of elective courses.

  • Communications Technologies and Cyber Security
    Study operating systems, network computing, cryptology, and network security to learn how to protect information. 
    This specialization requires two required courses and three electives from a set of elective courses.

  • Bioinformatics
    Be uniquely able to design and implement slolutions to challenging problems involving large-scale biological data. 
    This specialization requires  compulsory and  electives from a list of elective courses.

Who can apply?

All Bachelor of Computer Science students are eligible to apply for a specialization. A certificate will be issued only to a student who satisfies all of the requirements of the specialization, in addition to the degree requirements. Note: Requirements for each specialization are listed below.

How to apply

The specialization certificate will not be issued automatically—it is issued upon your request only. You can apply to the Dean’s Office for the Certificate. The Dean’s Office will ensure all requirements are satisfied, issue the Certificate and include a notation on your transcript. For more information on applying for a specialization, please contact our Undergraduate Committee at undergrad@cs.dal.ca.
