Overview

The Psychiatry Department at Dalhousie University offers both an MSc and a PhD in psychiatry research. These graduate programs equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as professionals in research areas pertaining to psychiatry and mental health/mental illness.

Developing skills in research

The MSc coursework covers relevant current topics including clinical trials, genetics, neuroimaging, participatory research, psychotherapy research, early interventions, and personalized psychiatry. The PhD coursework includes advanced statistics and an experiential psychiatry course. Students in both programs will improve their skills in critical appraisal, study design, statistics, data analysis, and scientific writing. For the MSc, each student will complete an independent Masters’ thesis research project. For the PhD, each student will complete comprehensives as well as doctoral dissertation research.

Admission Requirements

Candidates must satisfy the general requirements for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
