Need help picking a major?
Try these tips:
- Explore your options. Check out the list of undergrad programs to see what’s out there and what each major is all about.
- Do some research. Visit the Student Success Centre or browse online to learn more about different majors and career paths.
- Know what’s required. Look through the academic calendar to see what courses are involved in each major—and ask yourself if they sound interesting.
- Talk to people. Chat with students and profs in programs you’re curious about, or book a meeting with an advisor.
- Visit departments. Drop by the ones you’re interested in and check out bulletin boards for info on seminars, events, internships, and scholarships.
- Try different classes. Taking courses in other departments is a great way to discover what you like.
- Thinking about more than one area? You might want to do a double major or add a minor.
Before you declare your major
Think about your interests, skills, and long-term goals. Your future career might require more studies, so keep that in mind when choosing your major.
Keep your options open. If your interests or plans change, you can change your major. Or, you might want to add a minor or certificate to explore other areas of interest.
