Senate Academic Programs and Research Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the Senate Academic Programs and Research Committee (SAPRC) is to:

1 Oversee academic program approvals (including modifications and termination).
2 Oversee quality assurance of academic programs.
3 Oversee quality assurance of academic and research Centres and Institutes.
4 Develop and recommend policies concerning the ethical conduct of research and scholarly activity.

Senate Academic Programs and Research Committee has two subcommittees:

SAPRC Subcommittees

The SAPRC has a Research Subcommittee and an Undergraduate Academic Programs Subcommittee to focus on these areas of their mandate.

SAPRC Research Subcommittee

The purpose of the SAPRC Research Sub-Committee is to support the SAPRC in:

  • Overseeing quality assurance of multi-faculty research centres, and institutes.
  • Developing and recommending policies concerning the ethical conduct of research and scholarly activity.
  • Conducting preliminary review of all reports, policies and procedures related to research and scholarly activities being submitted to Senate. 

SAPRC Undergraduate Academic Programs Subcommittee

The purpose of the SAPRC Undergraduate Academic Programs Subcommittee is to: 

  • Provide a thorough review of concept papers, full proposals for degree (Majors and Minors), Certificate or Diploma programs at the undergraduate level (both new programs and program modifications). 
  • Confirm compliance of undergraduate Certificates with the Dalhousie University Certificate Framework. 
  • Approve Minor undergraduate programs on behalf of SAPRC.
