How to Apply
This page and the Common Application Questions page will provide you with the information you need to complete your MI application. If you have any questions after reviewing the website please contact the MI Program & Admissions Support Specialist (inform@dal.ca).
Important notes regarding our admission process
- We prefer that ALL application documents be submitted electronically. We do not recommend couriering or mailing paper documents unless this is the only option. Processing times will be slower for mailed/paper documents. Please provide advance notice for courier deliveries. Please refer to "Application Elements & Submission Instructions" below for specific instructions.
- All electronic documents must be sent to inform@dal.ca. Do not send application documents to the Registrar's Office, Graduate Studies, or other department. Tracking down these documents can waste a lot of staff time and potentially delay the processing of your application.
- Please be patient. Our email volume is high and it may take 5-7 business days for staff to respond and to update the online system. If you have contacted us multiple times and have not heard back, please check your email junk folder and ensure inform@dal.ca is marked as "safe" so that you don't miss our emails.
- Please email inform@dal.ca if you have any questions or concerns. Ultimately, it is up to you as the applicant to ensure documents are submitted properly AND to let us know if you are having issues. As long as you provide notice, we can usually be flexible. Do not wait for staff to contact you to submit your items.
Application deadlines
The MI program has a Fall (September) intake only.
A Winter (January) start is only possible for select Canadian applicants with extensive professional experience (see Common Application Questions for more details). We are not able to offer a January start for International applicants.

After You Apply: Tracking Your Application
You can log into DalOnline (using the username and password you applied with) to see which application elements have been received. Questions about your application elements can be directed to the Program & Admissions Support Specialist (inform@dal.ca).
Once your application is complete, it will be forwarded to the MI Admissions Committee for review.
Please note: incomplete applications will not be processed.
If you are accepted into the MI program, the Program Manager will send you an informal offer via email, and a recommendation of acceptance will be sent to the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS). FGS reviews all recommendations and provides final decisions. The formal acceptance letter will be sent from the University Registrar.
Note: As of July 1st, 2023, the Faculty of Management no longer has Schools. You may still see the name School of Information Management in some places. We encourage you to refer to the program name or the Faculty of Management, but application documents can refer to SIM, Faculty of Management or the MI program. The MI program and admissions process has not changed.
