Changes to Student Success Centre Services

Most Student Success staff will be moving to working remotely as of Monday March 23, 2020. Working remotely means staff can be contacted via email or telephone to have questions answered or to set up a remote meeting via telephone, Microsoft Teams or another mutually agreed upon means of meeting remotely.

October 2019

MI'KMAQ HISTORY MONTH

In 1993, Premier John Savage and Mi’kmaw Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy declared October as “Mi’kmaq History Month”, the official month to recognize and celebrate Mi’kmaw culture and heritage. We invite everyone to join us in the celebration of our local Indigenous culture and heritage.

Several on and off campus events are planned throughout the month of October for faculty, staff and students to attend. They are as follow; 

  • October 1, 2019 – Treaty Day, Mi’kmaq Grand Council Flag raising ceremony. 12:30pm Campus amphitheatre in front of the MacRae Library
  • October 4, 2019 - Launch of a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIWG) awareness campaign highlighting the REDress project @ 2:30 in the Student Learning Commons. 
  • October 8, 2019 – Gerald Gloade “Celebrating Mi’kmaq History Month”
    (Keeping our Stories Alive) from 6-8pm @ Millbrook Cultural Centre. Free admission with limited free transportation for up to (11) RSVP to Arthur.stevens@dal.ca
  • October 15, 2019 – Blanket Exercise and talking circles from 11am-2pm. 
    Open door, everyone welcome! Location Riverview room, Jenkins Hall. 
  • October 22, 2019 – Mi’kmaw Language “Lunch N’ Learn” from 12-1:30pm in Multi-cultural space/NCTR room Student Learning Commons. Open door! 
  • October 30, 2019 – Traditional Mi’kmaw Feast with Traditional Mi’kmaw Dancer Jaici Syliboy from 12-2pm in Riverview room, Jenkins Hall
