Why Dal?

I hold a Bachelor of Music from Dalhousie University. I taught music in Toronto for 15 years, and I started my own production company called Blind Faith Productions in Fredericton before returning to Dal to pursue my MA Musicology.

What Inspires Me?

Musical theatre and theatre education. I have directed five musicals: Next To Normal, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, Spring Awakening, and A Chorus Line.

Awards

The NB Joy Film Award and the Short Film Venture Award, writing prizes I received for my short film “Il Sole”  

After Dal

Since graduating, Shawn has been working full time as a musical theatre instructor at Capilano University in Vancouver, British Colombia. This past year, he had the pleasure of being on the jury for The Ovation Awards for Applause Musicals Society which celebrates musicals in Vancouver’s lower mainland. In summer 2019, Shawn was proud to present his research paper, “Sounding Disability in Musical Theatre” at Quest University as part of the West Coast Amateur Musical Society.
