Description

The MLIS/MPA combined degree is a 3 year full-time course of study leading to the degrees Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) and Master of Public Administration (MPA). A total of 27 courses is needed to complete the MLIS/MPA program: 12 half-credit MLIS courses (36 credit hours) and 15 half-credit MPA courses (45 credit hours).

Admissions

Separate application packages must be submitted to each department.
Students who apply for the combined MLIS/MPA program must meet the admissions standards of both the School of Public Administration and the School of Information Management.

Notes:

  • Not all courses are offered every year. It is the students' responsibility to ensure they plan their schedule accordingly. Combined degree students are advised on an individual basis to assist with course selection.
  • View MLIS and MPA course descriptions and syllabi.
  • MGMT 5000 should be taken in the fall of year 2 or 3.
  • MPA/MLIS students are required to participate in the PDCP during any two consecutive years of their three year degrees.
  • If you choose "Other" for the Advanced technology requirement it must first be approved by the MLIS Program Coordinator.
  • INFO 0590 is optional.
  • PUAD 6855: Students who have worked in an information setting prior to admission to the MLIS/MPA program, under the supervision of an experienced information professional, and who have accumulated a minimum of 500 hours continuous pre-admission employment in this setting may apply to have this experience count for PUAD 6855 Internship.
  • Students may take electives outside SIM.
  • As indicated in section 5.1 of the Graduate Studies Calendar (under “Program Fee Programs”), combined degree students must register for REGN 9999 in every term to ensure fees are generated properly. This course is listed as “Registration Course-Graduate” in the Academic Timetable.
