Scholarships and fellowships
As a graduate student in excellent standing, you're eligible to apply for a number of funding opportunities through the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Whether it’s a departmental scholarship or a university-wide scholarship, the Faculty of Graduate Studies has your future in mind.
And don't forget about bursaries. As a graduate student, you're eligible to apply for bursaries at any time.
Research assistant positions
You may also consider applying for a research assistant position. Individual faculty members who have funding from grants will occasionally offer these positions. Interested? Get in touch with the faculty member you're interested in working with.
External Funding Database
It's important to be aware of all the external funding opportunities available to you. Start by exploring the Faculty of Graduate Studies' External Funding Database, a valuable resource with a wealth of scholarship information from a variety of sources.
Federal and provincial funding agencies for health research
Next, get in touch with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF). These are two of our most important sources of funding.
Other topic-specific funding
Once you've decided on a thesis topic, you'll want to begin looking into funding your research through an outside agency. Consider hospitals and foundations for particular diseases or conditions, and the governing bodies of the populations you're interested in studying.
Graduate thesis student conference travel grants
If you're a full-time student, you may be eligible for conference travel grants.
