Program details

For graduate students interested in the intersections of history, literature, philosophy, religion, language and art of the ancient, late-ancient and medieval worlds, Dalhousie University’s Department of Classics offers one of the most intellectually vibrant programs in Canada.

Our Classics graduate programs have strengths in Greek and Roman history, Greek and Latin literature and, distinct from most other classics programs, a long tradition of work on ancient philosophy. Our students can also work on subjects and sub-disciplines not traditionally included in classics departments, including late-antique, patristic, Byzantine and medieval philosophy, theology and religion.

Apply to our Master of Arts (MA) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program, and join our tight-knit, intellectual community of students and faculty devoted to the rigourous study of ancient texts.
