A message from Frank Harvey
Provost and Vice-President Academic (Acting)

Completing a university degree is an important milestone, and it was our hope to gather in-person this spring 2021 to celebrate all that our graduates have accomplished. However, I am writing to share the news that our Dalhousie University Spring 2021 Convocation will be a virtual celebration.  What matters most is your health and well-being, as well as the health and well-being of your family and loved ones.

Please know that this decision was made after much deliberation and discussion; we don’t fully know what public health restrictions will be required come the spring and we do not expect to be able to safely host a gathering the size of a typical Convocation ceremony (1,500-2,000 people). We also expect continued travel restrictions would limit the ability of many of our grads and their families, friends and supporters to take part.

You have my personal assurance that there will be opportunities for graduates to join another in-person Dalhousie Convocation ceremony in the future, where you will have your moment crossing the Convocation stage.

Planning for our 2021 virtual Convocation celebration is underway. We will share details in the weeks leading up to graduation.

We look forward to celebrating your achievements in the spring and welcoming you to our Alumni community.
