Peter Mushkat

Peter stands outdoors and looks at the camera. He has a light skin tone, white hair and a short beard.

Since Peter Mushkat graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1986, he has worked as a consultant, researcher, and lecturer in the areas of marine and environmental law. In 2012, he was appointed to the College of Sustainability where he is involved in the ESS experiential learning courses – Capstone, the engagement project, and co-op. After acting as the College’s Interim Director for the 2020-21 academic year, Peter completed a two-year term as Director of the College from 2021 to 2023.

Peter has worked as a consultant with government, agencies, the not-for-profit and the private sectors, focusing on issues dealing with the environment and public policy.

He has taught environmental law; international environmental law; and administrative law in Dal’s undergraduate Environmental Science program in the Faculty of Science (2000-2017) and at the Schulich School of Law (Winter 2020). Peter also delivers an online introductory course in environmental law for Acadia University.

Peter is wearing a dark checkered shirt and holding a tiny black puppy in his hands.

For Peter, the greatest opportunity the College offers is enabling students to put into practice what they have learned from their academic courses. Peter’s great loves outside of sustainability are good food, gardens, music and theatre – especially opera. And Dolly, of course (not exactly as illustrated)!
