Since Peter Mushkat graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1986, he has worked as a consultant, researcher, and lecturer in the areas of marine and environmental law. In 2012, he was appointed to the College of Sustainability where he is involved in the ESS experiential learning courses – capstone, the engagement project, and co-op. After acting as the College’s Interim Director for the 2020/2021 academic year, Peter was confirmed as the new Director of the College for a two-year term beginning in 2021.
Peter has worked as a consultant with government, agencies, the not-for-profit and the private sectors, focusing on issues dealing with the environment and public policy.
He has taught environmental law; international environmental law; and administrative law in Dal’s undergraduate Environmental Science program in the Faculty of Science (2000-2017) and at the Schulich School of Law (Winter 2020). Peter also delivers an online introductory course in environmental law for Acadia University.
For Peter, the greatest opportunity the College offers is enabling students to put into practice what they have learned from their academic courses. Peter’s great loves outside of sustainability are good food, gardens, music and theatre – especially opera. And Dolly, of course (not exactly as illustrated)!
