Windows Computers

The Faculty has 24 Windows 10-based computers for student use. They have been retrofitted with remote virtualization technology so that students can use them remotely during the pandemic. They are Dell Optiplex 3050 computers: i5-7500, with 16GB of RAM and fast SSD storage. Software includes:

  • ArcGIS
  • ArcGIS Pro
  • AutoCAD 2018 (free software download for students)
  • Karamba 3D RH6
  • Lunchbox
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Radiance
  • Revit 2018 (free software download for students)
  • Rhino 6, Grasshopper, Ladybug, and Honeybee

Macintosh Computers

The Faculty has 12 Macintosh computers for student use. They cannot be accessed remotely during the pandemic. They are iMacs: i5, with 16 GB of RAM and a hybrid drive. Software includes:

  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • AutoCAD 2018
  • Revit 2018
  • Rhino
  • SketchUp Pro 2019
  • V-Ray

Other Equipment

Ceiling-mounted digital projectors are installed in Rooms HA18, HB2, and HB4. There are also two 50-inch mobile screens and two 65-inch mobile screens for student use.

Access and Support

Dal Computers Need a Dal NetID

  • See the online instructions to activate your NetID and set your password.
  • Use any lab computer in the university.


All of the computer equipment in the labs is connected to an alarm system that is monitored by Dalhousie Security. Removing equipment will trigger the alarm.

Reporting Problems

If you notice a hardware or software problem with a Windows computer, go to the computer's Troubleshooting window and send an e-mail message to Information Technology Services: To report a problem with a Macintosh computer, contact Jeremy Sutherland: (weekdays 9:30–5:30). Include your name, the date, the computer number, and the problem. If necessary, the problem will be reported to ITS.
