Note: From January to August 2019, during construction in the Medjuck Building, the studio-related equipment is in the relocated studios.

Dal Computers Need a Dal NetID

  • See the online instructions to activate your NetID and set your password.
  • Use any lab computer in the university.

All of the computer equipment in the labs is connected to an alarm system that is monitored by Dalhousie Security. Removing equipment will trigger the alarm.

In-house Support

Questions about computer operation should be directed to Jeremy Sutherland in Room HA32 (weekdays 9:30 to 5:00).

Sexton Help Desk

The Sexton Help Desk (902-494-3139) is located next to the circulation desk in the Sexton Library (third floor, B Building). The IT Help Desk website lists its services and hours. For online assistance, e-mail If your computer needs repair (malware, virus removal, etc.), it will be forwarded to Client Services on the Studley Campus.

Reporting Problems

If you notice a hardware or software problem with a Windows computer, go to the computer's Troubleshooting window and send an e-mail message to University Computing and Information Services. To report a problem with a Macintosh computer, contact Jeremy Sutherland. Include your name, the date, the computer number, and the problem. If necessary, the problem will be reported to UCIS.

Software Download

The university's IT Services department provides some free software to faculty and students. Go to the Software Download page and log in.
