Research interests

Dr. Smith’s primary research goal is to provide new insight into retinal diseases using ophthalmic imaging. Specifically, he uses innovative acquisition and processing methods to obtain and extract new information from imaging data. This field of research is important to ensure imaging devices are used to the best of their potential for improved patient care when diagnosing, treating, and monitoring retinal diseases. Priorities of his research program are to create a diverse research group with multi-disciplinary collaborations and conduct research that is a balance of experimental methods and clinical relevance.
