Congratulations!

It is with great pleasure we’d like to congratulate Dal Law alumna Tara Erskine to her appointment with the Canadian Human Rights Commission.  She will be stepping into a three-year position as a part-time member of the Commission.

Erskine is a partner at the law firm McInnes Cooper, and has vast experience in the field of human rights law in the workplace. She has appeared as counsel before human rights commissions and human rights tribunals in six provinces, and has been a regular speaker on human rights law at local and national conferences.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree at University of King's College in Halifax in 1992, Erskine completed her Bachelor of Laws here at Dalhousie University. She also completed a Master of Laws in labour relations and employment law at Osgoode Hall Law School.

An active member of her professional community, Erskine spearheaded the founding of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers, and served as Chair of the National Labour and Employment Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association. She has also been director of both the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia and Halifax's Neptune Theatre.

The Canadian Human Rights Commission was created in 1977. Along with the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, the Commission administers the Canadian Human Rights Act according to procedures specified by law and without interference from the government. The Canadian Human Rights Commission also ensures compliance with the Employment Equity Act.
