Abstract:
Optimization for transport or industry has been commonly studied for decades. When the problem reaches a large scale, exact methods cannot solve it in a reasonable time. Unfortunately, most of the metaheuristics currently used are blind: they start from an intuitive solution and try to solve it by successive improvement (local search, genetic algorithm...) without knowing if the search direction will lead to a global or local optimum. In this presentation, we will see how data mining can extract knowledge from the vehicle routing problem and how this knowledge can be exploited.
Speaker Biography:
Dr. Flavien Lucas is a Maître Assistant at IMT Nord Europe in France. He did his undergraduate studies in Mathematics and masters in optimization at the University of Nantes with one semester at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Southern Brittany under the supervision of Marc Sevaux and the co-supervision of Romain Billot (IMT Atlantique). Before joining IMT Nord Europe, he was a postdoctoral researcher at University of Antwerp under the supervision of Kenneth Sörensen on the On-Demand Bus Routing Problem (ODBRP). His main research focuses on the use of data mining and machine learning to improve metaheuristics for the Vehicle Routing Problem.
