Getting to know your staff: Jillian Pulsifer

Posted by Mallory Rae on November 1, 2021 in News

Jillian Pulsifer is the Information and Operations Assistant in the Management Career Services (MCS) office.

Jillian is the recipient of a Staff Recognition Award for 2021—the Exceptional Contribution Award—one of her proudest accomplishments from her time at Dal. Although she has worked full time at Dalhousie for over two years, her time here began when she was a student. While studying for a Master of Information degree, Jillian worked as a research assistant for Dr. Bertrum MacDonald.

Jillian’s passion for information management stems from her belief that IM professionals can make huge impacts in any workplace. People often assume that they work primarily in libraries or archives, but many organizations need people with the ability to manage their information needs.

A crucial aspect of Jillian’s job is efficient information retrieval but her favourite part is helping people. She helps students, employers and coworkers find the information they need to be successful. Her favourite part of the information management field is breaking down barriers so that everyone can access the same information.

Jillian has a passion for travel. When she left her job at a restaurant, she and her boyfriend Mark (pictured) packed up their car and spent three months driving around the United States and Canada. They travelled from Nova Scotia down to Florida, across to California, up to British Columbia, and back home. Highlights included being in New Orleans for the Jazz Fest, camping in the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park and Jasper, and visiting the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. When she is able to travel again Jillian has her sights set on Switzerland or Croatia. She visited both countries previously and would love to go back.

Outside of work Jillian enjoys watching horror movies, going for walks, reading and playing board games. Mark is a chef so they love to try new restaurants across the city or cook meals together and finish the night with a scary movie. Their two cats, Teddy (pictured) and Lily, are their scary movie companions.
