Dr. Michael Bliemel has been awarded the A. Gordon Archibald Teaching Excellence Award for 2014. This award, made possible by a donation from the family of the late Gordon Archibald, is presented yearly to the faculty member who, in the eyes of peers and students, displays superior teaching, exceptional attention to student needs and excellent understanding of the subject area.

Dr. Bliemel, associate professor of Management Information Systems, has been a reliable and innovative teacher since his arrival at Dalhousie in 2005. He teaches MIS, Business Process Integration Using ERP Systems, Leveraging Technology, Electronic Commerce, and Business Analytics and Data Visualization. His students and peers comment that he is a dedicated teacher who carefully considers the relevance and interest of his teaching material, and ensures that he prepares his students for careers in a world in which technology is constantly changing the way we do business. Dr. Bliemel has been instrumental in bringing SAP technology to the Rowe School’s curricula and classrooms.

Dr. Bliemel has taken on roles including Acting Director of the MBA program, Area Coordinator of the Technology, Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship department, and Visionary Member on the SAP University Alliances Academic Board for North America. He has researched extensively into game-based experiential learning, business intelligence and human-computer interaction, and he has a long list of accomplishments in research and service as well as in teaching. “We knew when Michael arrived that he would be a valuable addition to the Rowe School,” says Peggy Cunningham, Dean of Management. “Michael shows true dedication to teaching and to improving the way students learn.”

Members of the Archibald family joined faculty, staff and students at the Rowe School on March 4 to present Dr. Bliemel with the award.
