Emily Balkam received a BA with honours in psychology from Acadia University in 2004 and an MSc in speech-language pathology from Dalhousie University in 2007. Since graduating from Dalhousie, she has worked as a speech-language pathologist in Halifax and other communities throughout Nova Scotia, as well as in San Diego, California. She has a special interest in autism spectrum disorders, and has maintained involvement in that area of clinical practice since beginning as the academic coordinator of clinical education at the School of Human Communication Disorders in 2013. As the clinical coordinator, she is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and evaluating the clinical education component of the SHCD speech-language pathology program.
