Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering!
Dalhousie’s Faculty of Engineering is built on a solid 112-year foundation of excellence in research and student success.
Our programs are designed to go beyond traditional classroom learning to provide you with the opportunities you need to gain hands-on engineering design experience.
We offer a range of degrees with opportunities for research collaborations with our top faculty members. The Faculty of Engineering is one of the most innovative units at Dalhousie University and in Atlantic Canada.
Our newly renovated campus is located in the heart of Halifax’s innovation district and established to dramatically enhance Dalhousie’s capacity for research and development, and provide students, researchers and industry opportunities to collaborate and commercialize technologies in key sectors.
Our labs, workshops and spaces have been modernized and expanded to better support student design project, competition team, student research and entrepreneurial ideas.
Student Engagement and Success
Our tight-knit and supportive campus is home to over 2000 students. Our Dalhousie University Undergraduate Society and Women in Engineering Society are two of the largest students groups on campus, hosting events and activities throughout the year to connect students.
You can take part in our vibrant community by joining a club or design team. Students who take part in extra-curricular activities are recognized on our Dean’s Leadership List
Our dedicated staff also provide services, supports and mentorship opportunities to students to help them navigate their university experience.
World Class Research Opportunities
As one of Canada’s leading research-intensive universities, Dal’s Faculty of Engineering specializes in a variety of research areas, offering students the opportunity to participate in ground-breaking projects.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
With a strong focus on fostering innovation leaders of the future, our programs are designed to guide students through each step of the design process. From ideation to product development, our continuum of programming begins with our first year design courses, through to our senior year Capstone Program.
Within the Faculty of Engineering our newly opened Emera ideaHUB focuses on supporting new products emerging from engineering and applied science research. The HUB has provided engineering graduates such as NewAE Technology and Graphite Innovation and Technologies with the support and resources to build and grow their Startup companies.
