When Dr. Mathai Mammen (BSc ’89, Chemistry) and his team obtained the sequence of the COVID-19 virus early last year, they leapt into action. Now, the single-shot vaccine they've created promises to speed up immunization efforts in Canada, the U.S. and beyond.

Future alumna Laurenne Schiller (PhD student) had plans to work in an aquarium until a book detailing the impact of fishing on Atlantic bluefin tuna prompted a change of course. Through her PhD at Dalhousie, she is now helping to protect tuna species worldwide.
