The Faculty’s Undergraduate Strategy for Teaching and Learning (Science For) introduces a bold approach that reconceptualizes the undergraduate science experience for students at Dalhousie. Our students are encouraged to transform their interests, strengths and passion for science in an entire undergraduate experience rich in exploration, experimentation, skill building, work/life experience, and scientific knowledge.

Strategic Research Plan

Preparing for a world with 8 billion people: from local advantage to global impact.

Global reputation in scientific research requires attention to globally significant issues.  As the world’s population approaches eight billion people, globally significant issues are not hard to identify. Humans have spread throughout the terrestrial environment and human activity has placed massive pressure on the natural world. This analysis points to five key globally significant issues:

  • Anthropogenic influences on the environment
  • Energy security
  • Food security
  • Human health  
  • Information management
