Our School teaches the importance of building a socially just society, defined as one that upholds and validates the values of quality, diversity, inclusiveness, democracy and concern for human welfare.

Social work education takes place in one of 38 universities in Canada, including Dalhousie University. The School of Social Work offers Bachelor and Master of Social Work programs delivered locally on campus at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and by online distance education to students across Canada.

Each student gains practical social work experience through a field placement. Some common field placements include:

  • Child protection agencies
  • Transition houses
  • Family service and support centers
  • Hospitals and community based clinics
  • Community outreach programs in mental & physical health
