What is professional education accreditation?
Specialized or professional education accreditation is both a process and a condition. The process involves an integrated system of continuous assessment, evaluation, and improvement to comply with established accreditation standards. The condition or state of being accredited provides a credential to the public and regulators that assures an education program has accepted and is fulfilling its commitment to educational quality.

The Canadian Association for Social Work Education - l’Association Canadienne pour la formation en travail social (CASWE-ACFTS) is a voluntary, national association of university faculties, schools, departments, and modules offering professional social work education in Canada.
The Association’s primary mandate is to support the promotion of excellence in social work education, scholarship, and practice. This mandate is carried out through the accreditation of BSW and MSW social work programs, research, the publication of a journal, and an annual conference.
The Association’s Commission on Accreditation is responsible for accrediting these programs. There are currently 38 CASWE-ACFTS accredited university programs in Canada.
The Dalhousie University School of Social Work BSW program received CASWE-ACFTS accreditation in June of 2011 and the Social Work MSW program received CASWE-ACFTS accreditation in June of 2007. Accreditation applies to both distance and in-class programs.
