Studying our Oceans

Oceanography is an interdisciplinary science that includes studies of the tides and currents, the chemistry of seawater, the sediment at the ocean bottom, and the plants and animals that live in the sea.

Our researchers are sailing to the tropics, viewing the oceans from space, visiting the ocean bottom, and following currents with tracers. We observe to understand and then we create models that tell us how the Earth will evolve as a result of natural or man-induced changes.
