Degree Requirements

For those with a BSW:

• course-based option of 30 credit hours of Social Work courses and field placement

  
  OR

  
  
• thesis option of 24 credit hours of Social Work courses and field placement and a 6-credit hour thesis
  

For those without a BSW:

• Year 1: mandatory full-time, on-campus foundation year consisting of 24 credit hours of Social Work courses and field placement
  
  AND
  
  
• Year 2: course-based option of 30 credit hours of Social Work courses and field placement
  
  OR

  
  
• Year 2: thesis option of 24 credit hours of Social Work courses and field placement and a 6-credit hour thesis

Distance students complete the MSW program on a part-time basis, normally over a two or three-year period.

Campus students (those with a BSW) can complete the MSW on either a full-time or part-time basis.

For those without a BSW, Year 2 can be taken as a full-time or part-time campus program OR a part-time distance program.
