After a hiatus of a few years, the Dalhousie Health Sciences Students' Association (DalHSSA) was recently reinstated, and is already making an impact across campus.  DalHSSA is the local chapter of the National Health Sciences Students' Assocation - a network of students and faculty mentors promoting interprofessional education and collaborative practice at universities and colleges across Canada.

DalHSSA co-Presidents Meghan Beals and Madeleine Böhrer were inspired to revive the chapter at Dalhousie after being part of the winning team at last year's Health Care Team Challenge.  The team travelled to the Nationals at Queen's University and competed against interprofessional teams from across Canada.

This year Meghan and Madeleine - along with their executive team - are bringing the Nationals to Dalhousie.  DalHSSA was chosen to host the 2016 NaHSSA Conference "Diversity and Inclusion in Health Care" on March 4-5, 2016.  The conference - held in Dalhousie's new, state of the art Collaborative Health Education Building (CHEB) will focus on diversity, collaborative teamwork and patient centred care.  As well as the National Health Care Team Challenge, the conference will feature poster presentations, simulation events and speakers including Scott Jones - founder of the anti-homophobia/anti-transphobia "Don't be afraid" campaign; and Dr. John Ross - Emergency room physician, Dalhousie professor and leader in the transition to more patient-centred care.

While the NaHSSA conference is the biggest event that DalHSSA will be hosting this year, they have hosted other successful events since being reinstated including Interprofessional Week - January 18 - 22, 2016 - which featured a speaker series and a fun trivia night at Oasis Pub.
