The First-Year Student Event, held on September 22, 2015, featured the inspiring story of Scott Jones. Scott was left paralyzed from the waist down after a violent attack in New Glasgow in October 2013. Scott's experience has led him to start the "Don't Be Afraid" campaign, with a mission of creating a non-judgemental environment for discussing the fear associated with homophobia and transphobia.
The event was covered by a number of local media outlets:
- "Scott Jones shares inspiring story with future health professionals." CTV Atlantic - September 23, 2015.
- "Dal students applaud Scott Jones for recovery, anti-homophobia campaign." Chronicle Herald - September 23, 2015.
