Our Admission Process

The following information applies to all MHA options, including the Thesis Stream and JD/MHA.  For the combined program, you must follow the appropriate application process for those programs, in addition to completing your MHA application.

Early in your application process, we strongly encourage you to reach out to the School with any questions you may have: healthadmin@dal.ca

Our Admissions Criteria

  • A 4-year bachelor's degree (honours or equivalent) with a minimum B+ average (3.3 GPA). A background in health care and/or a clinical setting is not required. International transcripts will be converted to the Dalhousie equivalent to determine eligibility.
  • *A GMAT score of at least 550.  If you are unable to access the GMAT, you may use the GRE as an alternative.  For JD/MHA applicants only, the LSAT will be accepted in lieu of the GMAT.
  • Evidence of English Language proficiency (international students only).  If English is not your first language you will need to demonstrate your ability to complete graduate-level study in English.  There are some exemptions to this condition: the Faculty of Graduate Studies provides detailed information (link to language proficiency: opens in new tab).

Our Admissions Process

You will apply for the MHA through the Registrar's Office online application portal, and pay your initial application fee of $115.  Your application is then forwarded to the School of Health Administration's admissions team.

Within the School, your complete application package will be considered by at least two members of our admissions team.  Applicants with a GPA of 3.7 or above will be reviewed for early acceptance.  All other applications will be considered shortly after the relevant application deadline (see below).

Once a decision has been reached within the School, our recommendation is sent to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for approval.  Once the recommendation has been processed, the admission decision will be available on your online application portal.

If an offer of admission is made, you will need to pay an admission deposit to confirm your acceptance.  Details regarding orientation and other program information will be sent to you after the admission review process has been completed.

Our Admissions Deadlines

Please note that the following dates are final deadlines: early application is strongly encouraged.

Applications are accepted for the fall term only; there is no winter or spring admission for the program.
