Opening Inside – Out Dalhousie’s Jazz Ensemble, directed by Chris Mitchell, features numerous soloists performing a vibrant and diverse array of music, joined by singers from DalVoice. This dynamic let’s Fountain School students explore a range of approaches to improvisation and contemporary performance.
Inside – Out’s second half features Dalhousie’s New Music Ensemble’s program including three world premieres by student composers and ensemble members Celeste Cook, Louis Webb, and Joshua Bowden. Directed by Matthias McIntire, the ensemble will also explore graphic and text scores by Pauline Oliveros and Cornelius Cardew, as well as by Nova Scotia native Nicola Miller. The program is rounded out by a piece of ambient music inspired by Brian Eno's "Music for Airports", co-created by the New Music Ensemble.
The Fountain School’s New Music Ensemble blurs the boundaries between composition and performance, acoustic and electronic music, classical and contemporary styles, notated and improvised music, and welcomes collaboration across disciplines.
